Jiménez avoids Mola’s surprise

Mario Mola was about to give a surprise at the Cross de Alcalá, on a morning soaked in water in the Huerta del Obispo. The triple world triathlon champion entered just a second behind Sergio Jiménez despite running without spikes. The Spaniard did the cross in shoes and did not expect such a muddy and slippery circuit due to the rain. Even without being able to pull well in the numerous curves, he ran from less to more and was overtaken by rivals.

The first to Jorge Gonzalez from Emeritus, who came out very strong in the lead but paid dearly for his effort and finished third. As soon as he reached the finish line, Mola recounted: “I like cross country and I am very happy to have been able to fight until the end even though it was difficult for me to feel comfortable on the circuit”. For his part, Sergio, said: “The conditions of the cross today did not suit my characteristics very much because I sank but in the end I was able to win.”

In the women’s category, the big news was Claudia Estévez, happy simply to run without pain after several stress fractures in the tibia, who also found no rival by eliminating opponents as the test went on. First to last year’s winner, Beatriz Alvarez, who entered third, and then to Laura Priego, who was second.
