Jiah Khan Suicide Case Hearing Completed, Court May Give Final Verdict This Day

Nearly ten years after she was found dead in her home, a special CBI court in Mumbai is likely to deliver its verdict in Bollywood actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case on April 28. In this case, Jia’s boyfriend and movie star, Sooraj Pancholi, has been accused of inciting the actress. CBI special judge AS Sayyed heard closing arguments from both sides on Thursday and reserved his decision on the matter.

25-year-old actress Jiah Khan was found dead on June 3, 2013 at her Juhu home here. Police found a six-page letter from the house that was allegedly written by the Bollywood star. Based on this, Sooraj Pancholi was arrested and a case was filed against her for “inciting” the actress to commit suicide. The case was handed over to a special CBI court in 2021 after the session court said it had no jurisdiction over the matter as it was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

At the same time, the late actress Jiah’s mother, Rabia Khan (who is a key witness for the prosecution in this case) told the court that she believes this is a case of murder and not suicide. However, the Bombay High Court last year rejected her guilty plea seeking a new investigation into the matter.

During his testimony, Rabia had told the CBI court that Sooraj used to physically and verbally abuse Jia. Rabia had told the court that neither the police nor the CBI had collected any “legal evidence” to show that her daughter had committed suicide. Tell them that actress Jia, known for her performance in the Hindi film ‘Nishabd’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, was found hanged in her home by her mother.

Sooraj Pancholi, the son of Bollywood couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, is currently out on bail in this case. The CBI had alleged that the letter seized by the Mumbai police investigating the case on June 10, 2013 was written by Jiah Khan. The central agency had said the note allegedly talked about Jiah Khan’s “intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental and physical torture” at the hands of Pancholi, which led to her committing suicide.
