Jessica Simpson sure knows how to make a comeback, and a tiny wardrobe hiccup isn’t going to stop her. The 44-year-old singer hit the stage on Wednesday, July 23, for a live performance on the Today show. This was a big deal for her, marking a major television appearance with new music after a 15-year break.
During her performance, Simpson sang a mix of her well-loved hits, like "I Think I’m in Love with You" and "With You." She also shared her brand new song, "Fade." As she belted out the tunes, a pink bra peeked out. It seemed her corset-style top had slipped down a bit.
But ever the professional, Simpson stayed cool. She calmly adjusted her top as soon as she noticed the wardrobe moment. She didn’t miss a beat.
After her performance, Simpson chuckled about the incident with the Today hosts. "Of course, I had a malfunction here and everywhere, but it’s okay," she joked. "I think my breasts stayed in place, so that’s good."
Simpson also shared how "incredible" and "truly beautiful" it felt to be back on stage for a television show after such a long time away. She talked about letting go of perfection. "Today was like, ‘Well, get out of your head. Get out of your head. Who cares if your shoe falls off? Who cares if you forget the lyrics?’" she explained. "The truth is it’s about being able to be up there and be vulnerable. That really feels beautiful."

This year has been a big one for Simpson’s return to music. In May, she gave her first TV performance in 15 years on the season 23 finale of American Idol. Her new EP, Nashville Canyon: Pt. 1, dropped earlier this year. Fans can look forward to Nashville Canyon: Pt. 2 coming out on September 4, 2025.
Some of the lyrics on her new EP seem to hint at difficulties in her marriage to ex-husband Eric Johnson. For instance, the song "Leave" includes these lines: "What we had was magic / Now you made it tragic / Giving her what you gave to me / Now the well that you drank from’s empty."
Simpson and Johnson went their separate ways earlier this year after a decade of marriage. The former couple got married in 2014 at Rancho San Ysidro in Montecito, California, following several years of dating, which began in 2010. They share three children: Maxwell, who is 12; Ace, 11; and Birdie, 5.
Simpson released a statement to Us Weekly in January about her marital situation. "Eric and I have been living separately, working through a painful situation in our marriage," she said. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all the love and support you have given us, and we appreciate privacy as we get through this as a family."
