Jenni Hermoso: “Our opinions must be taken into account”

Six days after the RFEF made public that 15 regular footballers of the Spanish National Team had requested, via email, not to be summoned in the next call alleging that it would affect his emotional state and his health, one of the heavyweights of La Roja, Jenni Hermoso, has decided to speak publicly about what she considers “one of the worst moments in the history of Spanish women’s football”.

Captain of the National Team together with Irene Paredes, that he did not send the email or publish the subsequent statement from the soccer players, and Alexia Putellas, who did spread the writing together with her 15 companions, Jenni Hermoso has spoken about a conflict that, she assures, has caused her to take “days without sleep”. With her words, she supports her teammates, despite not sharing “the ways” and points out that the opinions of the players “must be taken into account”.

“I want publicly express my support for all the colleagues that a few days ago they decided to communicate their position. Not only do I understand your reasons, but I have also experienced many of the feelings and concerns that they have communicated”, launches the Pachuca striker who also argues that it is important to understand that “the current situation does not come from one day to the next”.

“It is evident that it is the consequence of a series of events, behaviors, decisions, failed attempts and wear and tear for trying to make the player’s voice heard “, deepens the Madrid striker, which continues to highlight the fact that the opinions of the players are taken into account: “In my career I have had the opportunity to work under different methodologies, game systems, group management and, although it is true that the players do not have responsibility in making decisions on these aspects, we are the ones who live day to day, the ones who work and the ones who need to be convinced of what is being done, so our opinions must be taken into account”.

To end, Jenni Hermoso talks about the obvious disconnection between players and coaching staff and players and RFEF: “The disconnection between the coaching staff and the players, the federation and the players, and the fracture of the group are signs that something is not working. How do we solve? Is there anything we players could do better on and off the soccer field? What else do we need to do so that we players can be heard in a friendly way? I don’t have the answer to all these questions, but I am clear that the players must be part of this process and that what happened a few days ago is not blackmail or a whim as has been tried”.
