Jeethu Joseph Cautions Producers: Avoid Superhero Film Trend After ‘Loka’ Success

Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph has been quite busy promoting his new movie, ‘Mirage.’ This upcoming film stars Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles. During recent chats with the media, Joseph shared some strong opinions about the success of Kalyani Priyadarshan’s blockbuster superhero film, ‘Lokah Chapter 1.’ He even warned against following quick trends in cinema.

Joseph feels the triumph of ‘Lokah’ is a big moment for Malayalam cinema. However, he cautioned producers against simply jumping on the superhero bandwagon. “Now ‘Lokah’ has made history at the box office,” he explained. “My only worry is that people might learn the wrong lesson from that movie’s success. Everyone shouldn’t blindly make only superhero films now. They’ve already made that film. We don’t want people to just copy successful movies and keep making only superhero films. There should be all kinds of movies.”

The director shared his thoughts on how the film industry should be open to trying out different stories. It shouldn’t get stuck making just one type of film. “If you are a filmmaker and you have a story for a drama or a comedy, you should know how to make it an entertaining film,” he said. “After all, that’s what truly matters. As an audience, you look for entertainment in a movie, right? If the director works on the script and makes it engaging, I truly believe that all kinds of films will do well.”

Joseph is also busy with his own big projects. In an earlier interview with Baradwaj Rangan, he confirmed exciting news. He will start filming the much-awaited third movie in the ‘Drishyam’ series, ‘Drishyam 3,’ this October. Mohanlal and Meena will return to their roles from the first two parts of the franchise.
