The former pilot of French Formula 1 Jean Alesi was arrested on Monday in Avignon (southern France) for his alleged involvement in the throwing a firecracker in his brother-in-law’s architect studio, which caused significant material damage. According to the French media reported on Tuesday, Alesi, 57, voluntarily appeared at the police station and acknowledged his involvement in the events.
The former Ferrari driver threw the fire contraption at his brother-in-law’s workplace, that she is in the process of separating from Alesi’s sister.
The ex-athlete clarified that it was a “practical joke” and not a settling of accounts. The investigation commissioned by the Nîmes Prosecutor’s Office will seek to find out the real motive of Alesi, who was accompanied by two other people, including his son – also arrested – at the time of the events.
