Jay Shah to Receive Prestigious Honor: But Why the Special Recognition

Special General Meeting of BCCI to Honor Jay Shah

A special general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to take place on Sunday. The meeting will honor Jay Shah, the newly elected President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), who took office on December 1. Shah was elected unopposed in September and became the youngest chairman of the ICC, succeeding Greg Barclay.

Jay Shah’s Contributions to Cricket

Jay Shah has made significant contributions to the development of cricket globally. As the former Secretary of BCCI from October 2019 to January 2021, he played a crucial role in shaping the sport. He later took over as the head of the Asian Cricket Council. Shah’s efforts have been instrumental in reintroducing cricket into the Olympics, with the sport being included in the Los Angeles Olympic Games after a 128-year absence.

Meeting with Cricket Officials

Jay Shah is expected to meet with top officials of Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board to discuss various issues, including the two-tier test system. His meeting with Cricket Australia President Mike Baird and England and Wales Cricket Board President Richard Thompson is likely to focus on ways to promote and develop the sport globally.
