Javier: “Everything worked well. The plan was to attack the strike zone.”

Cristian Javier went to the mound with a plan in the Dominican Republic’s first exhibition game and there are no complaints about the results.

“Everything worked out well,” the right-hander told the media after yesterday’s 2 2/3 inning outing against Atlanta. He allowed three hits, walked no one and struck out.

“The plan was to try to keep hitting the strike zone, specifically with the first pitch,” he added.

The right-hander, who belongs to the Houston Astros in the Major Leagues, said that everything was fine with his fastball and slider.

He said that he felt very comfortable with the offensive and defensive support of his teammates in the Creole squad. “That defense and that harmony that the team has, the support in the cave, gave me confidence,” he commented.

When he left the game, at the end of the third, the squad led by Rodney Linares was up 5-0.

“I feel good, my arm is fine and that’s important,” he added.

He said that he is prepared to compete next week in the team’s second official match, which up to now is his responsibility to open.

“We are prepared and positive. We are healthy and as long as we are healthy there are no problems,” said the 25-year-old pitcher.
