What many might not know is that Jaswinder Bhalla led a fascinating double life. Before becoming a household name in comedy, he was a dedicated academic. Born on May 4, 1960, in Ludhiana, his father was a primary school teacher. Bhalla himself was incredibly educated. He earned his BSc and MSc from Punjab Agricultural University. Not stopping there, he also completed a PhD from Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College in Meerut. He then returned to Punjab Agricultural University, serving as an Assistant Professor, then a Professor, and eventually a Head of Department. He finally retired from his teaching career in 2020. Jaswinder Bhalla kicked off his journey into comedy way back in 1988. He started with an audio cassette series called ‘Chhankata.’ This series became a huge hit. Over 27 audio and video cassettes followed, building his fame before he even stepped onto a film set. His unique brand of humor clearly resonated with people.
He made his film debut in 1998 with ‘Dulla Bhatti.’ But it was his role as Inspector Jaswinder Bhalla in the 1999 film ‘Mahaul Theek Hai’ that truly made him a star. From that point on, there was no looking back. He became a staple in Punjabi cinema, known for his perfect comedic timing.

Bhalla graced the big screen in countless Punjabi films. Many of them became huge blockbusters.
