The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on February 19, and with only a few days left, there is still uncertainty surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Bumrah’s fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January resulted in stretched back muscles, and he did not bowl in the second innings. Although he has been included in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy, it is unclear how long he will be fit to bowl.
Champions Trophy’s vomiting count begins
The final decision on Jaspreet Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy will be taken on February 11, which is the last date to submit the team to the ICC. Fans are expecting positive updates from the BCCI. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is not part of the ODI team for the three-match series against England. The BCCI is expected to update his fitness status after consulting with a sports scientist specialist, and a decision will be made regarding the Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The first match of the Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Karachi on February 19, while India will play all their matches in Dubai. India and Pakistan will clash in Dubai on February 23.
Doubt on playing Bumrah
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah recently underwent a scan on his back at BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. The BCCI’s medical staff will now coordinate with the selectors and the Indian team management to make a decision. If Bumrah is ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to unfit, Harshit Rana may be included in the team. Harshit played the first two ODIs against England, and the third and last match of the series will be played on February 12 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
