Jari-Matti Latvala returns to driving in Finland

Strip the mountain goat’. By more than Jari Matti Latvala decided to hang up his gloves and dedicate himself to directing the official Toyota team in the World Rally Championship, passion has pushed him to return to action. He will race in Finland (August 3-6) driving a fourth official Yaris. Surprising news that will surely be very well received by his countrymen.

“The story began, I think, after the end of the 2022 season, when I was in Japan and spoke with “Morizo” Akio Toyoda, our president,” explains Latvala. “I told him that I had the dream of testing a car in the Rally1 category, because in the last 20 years I have driven all the ‘world rally cars’ and all their evolutions, but never a Rallye1, and I would like to experience it before I am 40 years old”.

Latvala is the driver who has competed in the most World Cup rallies throughout history, 208, of which 18 were victories. He was runner-up three times and retired at the end of the 2019 season, although he has run in some races with the vehicles from his private collection.

But his ambitions are realistic after so long without competing at the highest level: “My goal is to smile after each stage andIf we are between the top five and the top ten, I will be very happy”.
