Japan has unveiled an automated kiosk designed to perfectly install smartphone screen protectors, addressing a common frustration for device users.
The “Film Labo” machine offers a high-tech solution to common problems like air bubbles, dust, and misalignment associated with manual application. It completes the entire process, including cleaning and application, in approximately two minutes.
Customers choose their phone model, desired film type, and payment method. They then place their phone on a designated tray inside the machine.
The service is currently limited to iPhone models. Users can select from three film types: clear, matte, or privacy.
The cost for the service, including the screen protector and installation, is 2,980 Japanese Yen, which is approximately $19.10 USD.
The kiosks operate on a cashless system, accepting various digital payment methods and credit cards. Cash is not accepted.
Early adopters report a 100% precise installation without any dust or air bubbles. Many users find the time savings and flawless result justify the cost compared to struggling with self-installation.
The innovation aims to solve a long-standing “pain point” for smartphone owners. Future plans may include expanding compatibility to other smartphone models and offering additional services.
