A security guard at the Japan pavilion in Osaka-Kansai Expo wore a futuristic headset that looked like a “scouter” from the popular anime series Dragon Ball. The device, called a Head-Mounted Display (HMD), was more than just a stylish accessory – it displayed images and text sent from the pavilion’s disaster prevention center.
This allowed the guard to check information about important visitors, suspicious individuals, and other crucial details in real-time. The HMD was connected to a camera on the guard’s chest, which sent data back to the center.
The image of the HMD quickly went viral on social media, with many users commenting on its resemblance to the Dragon Ball “scouter”. The device was developed by Teikei, a Tokyo-based security company, and was being used for the first time at the Expo.
According to Ichiro Suzuki, deputy manager of Teikei’s western regional business division, “We wanted to prevent potential problems by sharing data with the disaster prevention center.”
The Japan pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo was also hosting dignitaries from around the world, making the use of such advanced security equipment a welcome addition to ensuring a safe and successful event.
