According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at approximately 9:19 p.m. and was centered off the coast of Miyazaki prefecture in the Kyushu region.

Tsunami Warning Issued

The Japanese meteorological agency warned of potential tsunami waves reaching up to one meter in height, advising the public to exercise caution and stay away from the coast.

Revised Magnitude and Tsunami Threat

The USGS initially estimated the earthquake’s magnitude to be 6.9 but later revised it downwards to 6.8. Despite the revision, the agency emphasized that there was no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
