Japan Earthquake Fears Rise After Cartoon Prediction

Travelers from China and Hong Kong are canceling trips to Japan. They’re scared of a big earthquake. A famous cartoon predicted it.

A cartoon from 2000 warned of a big disaster in March 2011. That’s when a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. It caused a tsunami and damaged a nuclear power plant.

The cartoon’s author, Ryo Tatsuki, says another big earthquake will happen on July 5. Some fortune tellers in Japan agree. One says it will happen in the Tokyo Bay Area on April 26.

The Japanese government warns of a 70-80% chance of a big earthquake in the next 30 years. But they can’t say when.

A travel company in Hong Kong says bookings to Japan are down. The company’s director, C.N. Yuan, says it’s because of the earthquake predictions.

People in other countries like Thailand and Vietnam are also talking about it online. They’re warning others not to travel to Japan.

Ryo Tatsuki’s cartoon is popular in East Asia. Fans think she can see the future. Her cartoon tells stories of her dreams and predictions. Some of them came true, like the 2011 earthquake.
