Japan causes loss due to COVID in the International Tournament

Yesterday, late in the morning, the Japan Handball Federation sent a letter to the Royal Spanish Handball Federation communicating its withdrawal from the International Tournament of Spain 2022 due to the existence of positive cases of COVID in its ranks. This, therefore, reduces the list of participants in Cuenca to three: Poland, Iran and Jordi Ribera’s Hispanics.

The Royal Spanish Handball Federation, from the moment it became aware of Japan’s statement, has contacted different national teams in search of an alternative, but the proximity in dates with respect to the European Championship of Hungary and Slovakia 2022 -starts on January 13- and the scenario that Ómicron draws in different parts of the planet has made it impossible to find a replacement for the Japanese team.

The Hispanics, for their part, have been working under Jordi Ribera since last Sunday, January 2, in Cuenca with the aim of preparing these commitments, the last scheduled before the European Championship of Hungary and Slovakia 2022. Appointment to which Spain goes with the responsibility of defending the continental crown conquered consecutively in 2018 and 2020.

With the loss of Japan, the calendar of the International Tournament of Spain 2022 is now configured as follows:

Thursday, January 6 (8:00 p.m.) | Spain: Iran

Friday, January 7 (8:00 p.m.) | Poland: Iran

Saturday, January 8 (8:00 p.m.) | Spain: Poland

Faced with this new circumstance, there are also modifications in the field of season tickets and tickets for the event. All the people who have acquired, until now, their season tickets or tickets, may request their reimbursement at Asesoría Gómez Castillejo, on Calle Alicante, 5 in Cuenca, during office hours at 9:00 a.m. at 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. at 7:30 p.m.
