A recent ruling by the Supreme Court about street dogs has stirred up quite a conversation. The decision, which suggests moving these animals from the bustling streets of Delhi-NCR to shelter homes, has sparked a lively debate across the country. It’s a topic that has truly resonated with many, especially within the entertainment world.
Bollywood stars are not holding back their feelings. They are openly disagreeing with the court’s stance. Among them, popular actors Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan have voiced their strong objections, joining the ranks of others like Raveena Tandon who spoke out earlier.
Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram story, sharing a petition that called the court’s order unfair. She made a heartfelt point, saying these street animals are not just strays. They are a part of our shared community. Her message emphasized the deep connection people often feel with these animals.

Janhvi’s appeal painted a picture of everyday interactions. She wrote about the dogs who wait patiently for biscuits outside tea stalls each morning. She mentioned those who act as silent guards for shops all night. And she spoke of the dogs whose wagging tails greet children returning from school. To her, these animals offer a touch of warmth in what can often feel like a cold city.
The petition Janhvi shared also made it clear that simply locking up animals is not the answer to every problem. She argued that moving these animals into shelters is neither practical nor right. Instead, the appeal suggested smarter ways to manage the street animal population. These ideas include widespread sterilization and vaccination programs. It also mentioned setting up community feeding spots and encouraging adoption drives.
Actor Varun Dhawan also showed his disagreement. He shared the same petition on his own Instagram story. Varun has lived with pets for many years. He has often spoken up for animal rights in the past, showing his ongoing dedication to their welfare.

Raveena Tandon had also shared her thoughts on the situation previously. In an interview with HT City, she stated that blaming the animals for their increasing numbers is wrong. She believes if local authorities had done their job properly with vaccination and sterilization, this issue wouldn’t be so big. Raveena stressed that local bodies need to take responsibility for the street dogs in their areas. She also highlighted sterilization as an urgent need.
The Supreme Court, during its proceedings, heard from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. He argued that the safety of children and babies is most important. He suggested their well-being shouldn’t be risked just because some people call themselves ‘animal lovers.’ This comment, however, upset many animal welfare groups and pet owners, adding fuel to the ongoing debate.
