Jane Birkin needs to rest after her health incident. After initially giving up coming to Deauville, the singer and actress postpones all of her commitments planned for 2021 until next year. 74-year-old Jane Birkin was the victim of“a mild form of stroke” last week.
On Tuesday, the artist’s family sent a press release to AFP, via their agent: “Jane Birkin’s doctors inform us that following her stroke, she must rest until the end of the year before returning to her audience in 2022. All her activities (including the three concerts she was to give at the Philharmonie de Paris on September 18, 19 and 20) are therefore postponed to a later date “, indicates the text.
Jane birkin “is doing well”, said his relatives Monday, wishing that we respect the peace necessary for his convalescence. “Jane can’t wait to find her audience”, they added.
In addition to his presence at the Deauville festival and his concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris, the artist’s participation in the Ciné Rencontres festival in the Cotentin this week has also been canceled. Jane Birkin had to defend in these cinematographic meetings the film Jane by Charlotte, directed by his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg and presented this summer in Cannes, out of competition. She also had to sing in Champagne nights in October.
Born December 14, 1946 in London, Jane Birkin remains the favorite Englishwoman of the French, inseparable from Serge Gainsbourg, of whom she was the muse and ambassador. “When I see the French listening to songs that are forty years old, I know that they are part of their history. But they too are part of mine”, she summed up in the publication in 2018 of her diary Munkey diaries. It was in this book that she spoke openly about a long-to-fight leukemia that made its first appearance in her life in the late 1990s.
The documentary Jane by Charlotte, tender and introspective, shows the daily life of Jane Birkin, in her house in Brittany, the passion shared with her daughter for dogs, and also tackles the painful subjects of absence and illness. “Our lives revolved around the dead”, exhibited Charlotte Gainsbourg in Cannes, in reference to her father Serge Gainsbourg, icon of French music who died in 1991, and to her half-sister Kate Barry, photographer and daughter of composer John Barry, raised with Serge and died in tragic circumstances in 46 years old in 2013.
During her last public appearances, Jane Birkin had shown herself in great shape, whether in Cannes or on stage at the Francofolies de La Rochelle, where she sang a repertoire taken from her latest album. Oh ! Sorry you were sleeping …, designed with Etienne Daho, and standards written for her by Serge Gainsbourg.
