Jakobsen achieves his double

The Dutch Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick Step), winner of the first stage of the Volta al Algarve, repeated this Friday and was proclaimed winner in the thirdwhile the Frenchman David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) remains the leader.

Jakobsen won the sprint after traveling the 211.4 kilometers between the towns of Almodôvar and Faro with a time of 4:54.51. Belgian Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) and French Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) completed the stage podium, with the same time as the Dutch. In the general classification, he keeps the Gaudu yellow jersey, which he won on Thursday at Alto da Fóia.

American Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates) is second and Briton Ethan Hayter (INEOS Grenadiers) third, both within a second of the leader. Among the top ten overall there is a Colombian cyclist, Daniel Felipe Martínez (INEOS Grenadiers), who is seventh. This Saturday the penultimate stage will be held, a 32.2-kilometre time trial between Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira. The 48th edition of the race ends this Sunday.
