The lights dimmed in Switzerland as a true legend stepped forward. Jackie Chan, the Chinese superstar we’ve all cheered for, recently received a major honor. The Locarno Film Festival 2025 celebrated his amazing career. He was given the Pardo alla Carriera Achievement Award. This special award recognizes his long and impactful journey in movies.
When he accepted the honor, Chan shared some interesting thoughts. He talked about his early days and how he approaches his daring stunts. He even made a surprising confession. “I am not a superman,” he admitted. “I get scared.” Before any big jump or fight scene, he often thinks, “Will I die this time?” It’s a candid look at the bravery behind his famous action sequences.
Chan also opened up about his childhood. He jokingly told Variety that he was a bit of a troublemaker. “I was lazy, mischievous, didn’t want to study,” he recalled. This led his father to send him to a martial arts school. Young Jackie apparently loved it there because he could do what he wanted. “I could kick the teacher, punch someone,” he said with a laugh. “Whatever I wanted, I could do it.” This early love for physical play shaped his destiny.
He never wanted to just be an actor. Chan always pushed boundaries. He believed in doing things himself. “I do everything myself,” he stated. He even advises filmmakers today. He tells them, “If you only learn to direct, that’s not enough.” His words show his deep commitment to every part of filmmaking.
Chan also shared a touching memory about his father. His dad once asked him a tough question. “I am 60 years old,” his father said. “Can you still fight at 60?” Chan remembered feeling unsure how to answer then. But now, at 71, he proudly declares, “I can still fight.” It’s a testament to his lasting passion and energy.
