Iyer became the 16th Indian to score a century in the debut test, he also made these great records on his behalf

Middle order hitter Shreyas Iyer created history in the first ever India-New Zealand test in Kanpur. Iyer played a brilliant 105-run inning on 171 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. With this, he became the 16th Indian batsman to score a century in the debut test.

Additionally, Iyer has become the third Indian hitter to score a century while debuting against New Zealand. Before him, Surinder Amarnath did this feat in 1976 and AG Kripal Singh in 1955.

Iyer has scored a century in the debut innings of his test cricket. With this, he has become the 13th Indian batsman to score a century in debut innings of test cricket. At the same time, Iyer is the 10th Indian to score a century while making his home debut.

Thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant century, the Indian team scored 345 runs in their first innings of the Kanpur Test. Team India, which scored 258 of four on day one, was restricted to 345 runs by New Zealand bowlers in 111.1 overs. Experienced mid-pacemaker Tim Southee took five wickets for New Zealand. Aside from Iyer, Shubman Gill scored 52 and Ravindra Jadeja scored 50 runs. While R Ashwin scored 38 runs.
