Italia presenta protocolo para armonizar medidas anticovid en su deporte

Soccer Serie A teams will not be able to play if they exceed a threshold of 35% of players positive for covid-19 in their squad, according to a new protocol presented this Wednesday by the Italian government, aimed at harmonizing health measures in sport of his country.

After the cancellation of several matches in the Italian soccer league last week due to quarantine measures taken by regional health authorities, with criteria that vary from one to another, this protocol aims to establish a national framework of anticovid measures in sports collectives.

Approved on Wednesday in a meeting with representatives of the regions, this document must still be validated by the Committee of Experts that advises the government, before it can enter into force.

This threshold of 35% of positive players, which can represent 11 or 12 cases in a Serie A club, is the main measure of the new text, which the AFP has been able to consult.

Officials of ‘Calcio’ had been surprised last week by the fact that a club like Torino was quarantined by the local authorities with six positives, when another like Udinese was able to play after registering a dozen cases.

The president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina, shared "satisfaction" by these new rules.

"Football needs dialogue, clear rules and responsibility. The new protocol is born on these bases"he stressed in a statement.
