Italy Cable Car Crash Kills 4 Tourists Near Naples Mountain Resort

A cable car plummeted 1,100 meters near Naples, Italy, killing four people. The incident happened on April 17, 2025, at Mount Faito in the Campania region. The cable car was carrying tourists when one of its main supporting cables snapped.

Cause of the Accident

The traction cable likely broke, causing the car to crash. An emergency brake at the lower section worked, but the one near the top didn’t. Authorities are still investigating.

Rescue Efforts

Rescue teams faced challenges due to heavy rain, strong winds, and thick fog. Over 50 firefighters joined the rescue mission. The injured person was airlifted to a hospital.

  • EAV, the public transport company operating the cable car, said it had passed safety checks.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, currently visiting the US, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims. The governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, confirmed that all the deceased were tourists.
