Italian media group MFE – MediaForEurope, founded by the late Silvio Berlusconi, is poised to acquire a 33% stake in Portuguese media conglomerate Impresa through an investment of up to $32.6 million.
The deal involves a capital increase in Impresa, the parent company of prominent Portuguese television channel SIC and newspaper Expresso. MFE’s investment is expected to solidify its position in the Southern European media landscape.
The agreement is anticipated to be announced to the market this week, according to reports from Portuguese business newspaper Negócios. Both companies are reportedly keen to promptly submit necessary information to the Portuguese securities regulator CMVM.
MFE, formerly known as Mediaset, is controlled by the Berlusconi family’s Fininvest holding company. The move aligns with MFE’s broader strategy of expanding its footprint in key European media markets.
Impresa is a significant player in Portugal’s broadcasting and publishing sectors.
