Oscar-winning Palestinian director Basel Adra recently shared a startling account. He revealed that Israeli soldiers raided his home. This unexpected event unfolded on a Saturday, catching many by surprise.
A shocking incident occurred with Basel Adra, a renowned director from Palestine. He reported that Israeli soldiers searched his house in the West Bank. They also inspected his wife’s phone during the raid.
Adra told The Associated Press about the day’s unfolding events. Earlier, soldiers attacked his village. Two of his brothers and a cousin were hurt in the incident. He went with them to the hospital for treatment. While he was still at the hospital, his family in the village contacted him. They informed him that nine Israeli soldiers had stormed his home.
Adra explained more about what happened at his house. The soldiers questioned his wife, Suha, about him. They also went through her phone. Their nine-month-old daughter was present in the house at that time. He mentioned that the soldiers also held one of his uncles for a short period. Adra added that he could not return home right away. The soldiers had surrounded his house from all sides, making it impossible to get close.
Adra Feels Targeted After Oscar Win
Adra believes he has become more of a target since winning his Oscar. He shared his thoughts on the situation. “Even if you are simply making a film about settlers, the army still comes after you,” he said. “They chase you, and they search your house.” He feels this entire system aims to attack them. Its purpose is to scare and greatly terrify them.
Adra’s co-director, Yuval Abraham, also spoke about the incident. Abraham reacted to what happened to Adra. He stated that they have seen this kind of pattern many times before. He described a scenario where Israeli settlers attack a Palestinian village. Then, the army arrives and targets the Palestinians.
