An attack occurred early on Tuesday at a military position in the Palestinian village of Tayasir, located in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. The incident resulted in the death of two Israeli soldiers and injured eight others, with two of them in serious condition. The Israeli army reported that one of the deceased was a 39-year-old army reservist and war officer. The identity of the second deceased is expected to be made public throughout the day.
The attack happened around 06.00 local time, when an individual, not yet identified, infiltrated a military complex near a control post in the village of Tayasir and opened fire. The attacker was subsequently neutralized. The Israeli army stated that six of the injured soldiers are in a slight condition, while two are in serious condition.
In response to the attack, Hamas issued a statement congratulating the perpetrator, referring to them as a “Palestinian Resistance Combatter.” Although Hamas did not claim responsibility for the attack, they affirmed that the actions of the occupation and its aggression against the northern occupied West Bank will not go unpunished.
The situation in the northern West Bank has been particularly tense since January 21, following the entry into force of the truce in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army launched a large-scale operation against Palestinian militias in the Jenin refugee camp, which later extended to other West Bank cities, including Tulkarem and Tubas.
On the same day, the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, reported that the city of Tamun, south of Tubas, was bombed by two drones, in addition to assaults and destruction by Israeli forces in the city of Tulkarem. According to the UN, the entire Jenin refugee camp has been evacuated of residents after two weeks of Israeli offensive, with the population moving to surrounding areas and other nearby camps in search of refuge.
