Current Situation
The Israeli military has launched a new operation in the West Bank, known as the "Iron Wall," with the goal of eradicating terrorism in the region. This operation is being carried out by the Army, in collaboration with the Shin Bet internal security service and the Border Police.
Seat Belt
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that the new policy is a change in security policy in the West Bank and a campaign to eradicate terrorism. He added that the "Iron Wall" will be a sustained, long-term operation to protect settlements and settlers and ensure the security of Israel. Smotrich also mentioned that Jewish settlements will serve as a "security belt" for Israel.
Decisive Operation
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed to continue the raids for as long as necessary, stating that it is a decisive operation aimed at eliminating terrorists from the refugee camp. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reinforced that the raid is aimed at eradicating terrorism in Jenin, and that Israel will act methodically and resolutely against the Iranian axis wherever it sends its weapons. The Israeli government accuses Iran of trying to funnel weapons and funds to armed organizations in the West Bank.
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for maximum restraint from Israeli security forces, expressing deep concern over the situation. The violence has increased throughout the West Bank since the Gaza war broke out on October 7, 2023, with Palestinians attacking Israeli civilians and military, and frequent Israeli raids and settlers damaging Palestinian people and property.
