Israeli Defense Minister Says Troops Will Remain in Gaza Post-War Conflict

Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, has confirmed that Israeli troops will remain in Gaza’s “security zone” after the war. The zone, established by Israel, will serve as a buffer to protect Israeli communities. So far, 10% of Gaza has been added to this area since Israel resumed military operations three weeks ago, according to Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Israel will maintain its blockade on Gaza, restricting humanitarian aid to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages. The blockade has been in place for six weeks, despite warnings from the United Nations about its severe consequences. The UN has reported that 69% of Gaza is now under Israeli evacuation orders, displacing around 500,000 Palestinians.

Civilian Casualties Mount

The Gaza Health Ministry, run by Hamas, reports over 1,650 deaths since Israel restarted its military operations on March 18. The international community is growing increasingly concerned about the humanitarian crisis. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has described Gaza as a “large cemetery” for Palestinians and those trying to help them.

“We’re witnessing the destruction and forced displacement of the entire population of Gaza, happening right now,” said MSF’s Gaza coordinator. The UN has warned of a catastrophic situation, with many Palestinians facing displacement without a safe haven.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the international community calling for an end to the violence and the resumption of humanitarian aid. The conflict has resulted in significant human suffering, and a resolution remains elusive.
