Israel Begins Black Flag Operation, Strikes Houthi Rebels in Yemen

A sudden military operation has shaken parts of Yemen. Israel recently launched air strikes there. The attacks hit targets held by Houthi rebels. These strikes are part of what Israel calls "Operation Black Flag."

On Sunday night, July 6, 2025, Israeli jets pounded three Yemeni ports. Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Saif ports, all in the western part of the country, took direct hits. Local residents had only a short time to get out of the way. The Israeli military had warned them to leave their homes before the attacks began.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, spoke about the strikes on X, formerly known as Twitter. He confirmed the attacks were aimed at Houthi-controlled areas. These included energy stations and ships. He also mentioned vessels that the Houthi group had taken control of about two years ago.

Houthi-run media in Yemen did confirm that the Hodeidah port was hit. However, they did not share many details about the damage or any other information.

Minister Katz made it clear that "Operation Black Flag" was just the start. He sent a strong warning to the Houthi rebels. He stated they would pay a heavy price for their continued actions. Katz used very blunt language in his message. He wrote that Yemen’s future would be similar to Tehran’s. He added that anyone who tries to hurt Israel will be hurt back. In a chilling line, he said that any hand raised to harm Israel would be "cut off."
