Air strikes hit a school in Gaza City, killing 27 people and injuring many more. The school was being used as a temporary shelter for displaced families.
In the northern part of the Gaza Strip, Israel launched an air strike on the Dar al-Arqam school. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported the casualties.
Israel’s military said they targeted a key terrorist in a Hamas command center. They didn’t mention the school.
Earlier, the Gaza health ministry reported 97 deaths from Israeli air strikes in the past 24 hours. Israel’s military is expanding its ground operation to capture a large area in the Gaza Strip.
Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesperson for the Gaza civilian defense office, said the school attack killed several women and children. A pregnant woman and her husband, sister, and three other children are missing.
Israel has increased its operations in Gaza over the past week. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military will create a new corridor to separate the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis.
Netanyahu hopes the military pressure will force Hamas to release 59 remaining hostages. However, Hamas rejected Israel’s new ceasefire proposal, which was backed by the US. They only accept a 50-day ceasefire plan proposed by Qatar and Egypt.
