Ismail Sabri Yaqub elected Prime Minister of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The King of Malaysia has chosen Ismail Sabri Yaqub as the country’s new Prime Minister.

According to a report by a foreign news agency, the King of Malaysia has chosen Ismail Sabri Yaqub as the country’s new prime minister following the resignation of Prime Minister Mohiuddin Yassin.

Mohiuddin Yassin resigned this week after failing to control the country’s ongoing Karuna epidemic and losing a parliamentary majority.

It should be noted that in three years, three Malaysian prime ministers have changed and Ismail Sabri has been elected the third prime minister.

The royal palace said in a statement that 61-year-old Ismail Sabri had won 114 of the 222 members of parliament elected as prime minister.

Newly elected Prime Minister Ismail Sabri has served as cabinet minister to other prime ministers since 2004, holding portfolios in rural and regional affairs, agriculture and domestic trade.

Ismail Sabri hopes to soon overcome the current political crisis in the country.

It should be remembered that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri took office at a time when Malaysia is facing the fourth and most dangerous wave of coronavirus.

In the past 24 hours, 23,564 new corona cases have been reported in Malaysia, bringing the total number of cases in the country to more than 1.5 million.
