Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has been granted bail. The country’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted him bail till June 8 in eight cases.
Imran appeared at the headquarters of Pakistan’s anti-corruption agency National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to face questioning in the controversial Al Qadir Trust corruption case. He was there for about four hours. Imran’s wife Bushra BBI has also been granted bail till May 31 in another case by the Accountability Bureau. Speculation has been rife as to whether the army retreated amid Imran’s bail. A day earlier, Imran had said there was an 80 percent chance of his arrest.
There are several cases against Imran Khan. The PTI chief and his wife Bushra Bibi arrived at the NAB office shortly after noon. Before their arrival, security was beefed up outside the NAB headquarters. While Imran was at the NAB office, his wife was waiting outside in a bulletproof car, Dawn News TV reported.
In Pakistan’s fiery political situation, Imran Khan and the country’s army are currently at a standoff. Imran recently turned against the Pakistan Army. But only five years ago, Imran had a cordial relationship with the army. It is said that he became the Prime Minister with the support of the army with the support of which he became the prime minister.
There is a reason why Imran has become so angry with the military, targeting the military. He blames the army for the downfall of his government, Pakistani journalist and managing editor of Independent Urdu Harun Rashid told BBC Bengal.
Rashid said that since the day Imran Khan’s relationship with former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa broke down and the military withdrew support from Imran Khan’s government, Imran Khan’s government actually fell, he lost the no-confidence vote in Parliament. Many believe this is the reason for the fall of Imran Khan’s government. He even fears that the military is trying to kill him because of his popularity. He alleged that the army had already tried to kill him twice.
Imran Khan was arrested on May 9 from the Islamabad High Court premises. He was arrested by paramilitary forces with the help of Rangers in the country’s National Accountability Bureau Al Qadir Trust corruption case. The arrest sparked violence across Pakistan. News from Dawn and BBC.
