Is Suriname’s Presidential Candidate the Leading Bitcoin Advocate of the Americas?

Suriname Presidential Candidate Advocates for Bitcoin Adoption

Maya Parbhoe, a presidential candidate in Suriname, has launched her campaign under the banner of the new National Libertarian Party, with a primary goal of adopting bitcoin as legal tender in the country.

Parbhoe draws inspiration from El Salvador, the first country to recognize bitcoin as legal tender, and praises the policies of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, who has stimulated economic growth and reduced crime since taking office in 2019.

Parbhoe’s campaign criticizes the current Surinamese government, accusing those in power of corruption, fraud, and financial mismanagement, which has led to a loss of confidence among the population.

A New Vision for Suriname

Parbhoe’s plan includes recognizing bitcoin as legal tender, as well as a national education campaign on the use of the digital currency. She believes in the power of decentralization and sees bitcoin as a means to give economic power back to the Surinamese people.

Despite the challenges, Parbhoe is optimistic, pointing to Suriname’s young population that is ready for change and sees technology as the key to economic freedom and progress.

Crypto and American Politics

In the United States, another presidential election is underway between Trump and Biden, which could have a major impact on the crypto industry. Trump has indicated that he wants to mine all remaining bitcoin in the US and has announced crypto donations for his re-election campaign. However, his previous opposition to crypto should be viewed with a critical eye.

Joe Biden has brought crypto into the political conversation by taking Gary Gensler as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, but Gensler has implemented stricter enforcement against crypto companies.
