The Spanish Iris tió was the best in the Competition of only Paris coach, first stop of the Artistic Swimming World Cup, ahead of China’s Huiyam XU, world bronze in 2024 in this same test. Tió’s impressive performance earned her 240.0167 points, surpassing Xu’s 239.1651 and the Russian Vasilina Khabeshka’s 235.7242.
Tió’s victory marks a strong start for the new project of the Spanish artistic swimming team, now directed by Andrea Fuentes. After focusing on Olympic duet and team tests last season, Tió defended a routine with a difficulty of 29.1500, ranking sixth among the 24 participants. However, her 105 points in artistic impression, the highest among all rivals, and 135.0167 in execution, only behind Xu and Khabeshka, secured her win.
At just 22 years old, Tió was part of the Spanish team that won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. Her first-place finish in the inaugural test of the World Cup is a morale booster for the entire national team, which will serve as a measure of “the performance and potential” of its swimmers. Spain will compete in Paris as a technical team, participating in the two technical duos, the two mixed duos, and the three technical solo events.
The World Cup will continue with stages in Somabay, Egypt, from April 11 to 13, and Markham, Canada, from May 1 to 3, before concluding with the superfinal in Xi’an, China, from June 13 to 15. This Friday, the only male technician and female technical duos will also take to the water, providing further excitement and competition in the artistic swimming world.
