The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to demonstrate its strength in the region and against the United States. In an official ceremony with members of the Iranian Air Force in Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned the United States that if the Americans threaten them, they will respond with threats and attacks, as reported by the state agency IRNA. “The Americans sit and change the world map on paper, they also think about us, they talk about us, they threaten us,” the Iranian leader began, assuring a response to any harmful act by the United States against his country: “If they threaten us, we will threaten them. If they start that threat, we will launch ours. If they violate the security of our nation, we will violate yours without hesitation,” he said.
Regarding the possibility of negotiating with the United States, Khamenei was skeptical that this would bring any solution, given that in his first term, it was Donald Trump who broke the nuclear pact reached with the administration of Barack Obama and Iran. “The same person who is now in office broke the agreement, the agreement should have lifted American sanctions, but they were not,” the president said, referring to Trump. Therefore, he concluded that negotiating with the US “is not wise, it is not intelligent or honorable,” he said.
“They would be annihilated”
A few days ago, the new American president stated that he has left instructions in case Iran kills him: “If they did, they would be annihilated.” He also signed a memorandum to reestablish a tough stance with the Islamic Republic. The objective of this document is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear arms, as well as to economically pressure the country by limiting its oil exports. The enmity between Trump and Iran has intensified since the failed plot, announced by the Department of Justice, to kill the tycoon before the presidential elections in which the Republican was the winner. The accusation pointed to Farhad Shakeri, who was allegedly in charge of watching and ultimately killing Trump, and is, according to the United States, a fugitive in Iran.
