Men’s IPL franchises show interest in women’s IPL

BCCI will announce on January 25 who has received ownership rights to the five teams. BCCI has released a list of 10 cities for IPL women’s teams, out of which five cities will be selected. No base price has been maintained for the IPL women’s team bids. However, the same companies or firms can offer, whose audited value is at least Rs 1000 crore as of March 31, 2022. This offer will be valid for 10 years (2023 to 2032). BCCI together with Argus Partners, a law firm attending the meeting, will evaluate the offers. Before submitting their bids, everyone will also need to submit their separate eligibility documents by January 23rd.

What will be the format of the women’s IPL?

According to information from ITT, there will be 22-22 games in the first three seasons (2023-25). In the league phase of the women’s IPL, each team will meet twice (20 matches in total) with the top of the table qualifying directly for the final. The second and third placed teams in the league will play playoffs to become the second team to play in the final. The BCCI had also said that the month of March would be the window for the women’s IPL. The women’s IPL might have “33-34” matches starting from the 2026 season, but the BCCI has yet to reveal any details about the official format of the tournament.
