IPL vs PSL: Pakistan Super League will not be able to win the same as a match in the Indian Premier League

For IPL broadcast rights, BCCI has sold the television and digital rights for the Indian subcontinent. The auction for Package A and Package B has ended. According to reports, the BCCI will earn a huge amount of Rs 44,075 crore through TV and digital rights for the Indian subcontinent. Disney Star won the television broadcast rights for Rs 23,575 crore and Viacom 18 won the digital rights for Rs 20,500 crore. However, the BCCI has not yet officially announced the companies that will buy the rights.

IPL and Pakistan Super League are often compared. From Pakistani fans to former Pakistani cricketers, they keep trying to tell PSL better than IPL. However, it is clear that the same distance does not exist between the two leagues. While one IPL match will earn more than Rs 107 crore, the profit of the entire PSL season is less than this. The value of a PSL match is less than Rs 2.5 crore.

The Pakistan Cricket Board sold the media rights for 2022 and 2023 of the PSL in December 2021. The PCB had sold the PSL rights for two seasons for 4,350,786,786 Pakistani rupees. In Indian rupees, this amount is about Rs 1000 crore 66 crore, while in Indian currency for one year, this amount is about Rs 83 crore. This includes not just Pakistan but global rights. At the same time, an IPL match will earn more than 107 million rupees.

Typically 34 games are played in a PSL season. In this way, the value of the rights to a PSL match is less than Rs 2.5 crore. At the same time, if we talk only about digital rights of an IPL match, then this amount is 50 million rupees. At the same time, the cost of one match of the television rights of the Indian subcontinent is 57.5 million rupees. In such a situation, it can be estimated how fair the comparison of IPL and PSL is. IPL is the largest cricket league in the world while the second largest sports league in the world.
