India’s T20I Squad Announcement: The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming 5-match T20 series against England, starting from January 22. The team features the return of Mohammed Shami, along with newcomers Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Reddy. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, has been left out of the squad due to his recent poor form.
Poor Performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team, Maharashtra, has performed exceptionally well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, securing a spot in the semi-finals. However, Gaikwad’s individual performance has been underwhelming. In 6 innings, he has managed to score a century in only one match, while failing to cross the 20-run mark in the remaining 5 innings. This inconsistency has led to his exclusion from the T20 squad against England.
Gaikwad’s T20 International Career
Ruturaj Gaikwad has played 23 T20 International matches, scoring 633 runs at an average of 39.56, including one century and four half-centuries. His strike rate of 143.54 is impressive for an opening batsman. However, he will have to wait for an opportunity to return to the team.
