The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen its fair share of surprises this season. Some players have exceeded expectations, while others have failed to make an impact. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest names who didn’t quite live up to the hype.
Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, had a disappointing season. He scored 269 runs in 14 matches, averaging just 24.45. Despite being the most expensive player in the IPL, Pant failed to lead his team to the playoffs.
Liam Livingstone, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, also had a lackluster season. He scored just 112 runs in 10 matches, averaging 16. The English all-rounder took only 4 wickets in those 10 matches, failing to justify his price tag of 8.75 crores.
Glenn Maxwell’s season was cut short due to injury, and he was forced to leave the Punjab Kings mid-season. In the 7 matches he played, Maxwell scored just 48 runs, averaging 8, and took only 4 wickets.
Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 23.75 crores, had a disappointing season. He scored just 142 runs in 11 matches, averaging 20.29, and managed only one half-century. Iyer was the third-most expensive player in the IPL this season.
Ishan Kishan, who plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, had a poor season. He scored just 354 runs in 14 matches, with a single century in the first match. Despite being bought for 11.25 crores, Kishan failed to deliver consistently.
Ryan Parag, who was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for 14 crores, also had a disappointing season. He scored 393 runs in 14 matches, averaging 32.75, but failed to make an impact as a captain after Sanju Samson’s departure.
Rinku Singh, who was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 13 crores, had a poor season. He scored just 206 runs in 13 matches, without a single half-century.
Mohammed Shami, who plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, had a disappointing season with the ball. He took just 6 wickets in 9 matches, despite being bought for 10 crores.
Faf du Plessis, who plays for the Delhi Capitals, had a poor season. He scored just 202 runs in 9 matches, averaging 22.44, and failed to lead his team to the playoffs despite captaining in some matches.
Shivam Dube, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings, had a mediocre season. He scored 357 runs in 14 matches, averaging 32.45, but failed to make a significant impact despite being bought for 12 crores.
These players, despite being some of the biggest names in the IPL, failed to deliver this season. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back next season.
