IPL 2025 Season Starts March 23 with New ICC Code Rules

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 23, although the full schedule for the season has not been released yet. Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the release of the entire schedule, which, according to media reports, is expected to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) next week. The schedule is anticipated to be released before the start of the tournament, with the IPL expected to begin on March 21 and the final match scheduled to take place on May 25.

Changes in the IPL Season

This season of the IPL is expected to see a significant change with the implementation of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct Rules. Following the implementation of this rule, IPL teams will be required to adhere to the ICC’s code of conduct, marking a shift from the league’s previously independent rules. Additionally, the impact player rule, which was introduced last season and sparked controversy among players, including Rohit Sharma, will continue to be in effect this season.

The IPL Mega Auction 2025 was recently held, with Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive player in history after being bought by the Lucknow Super Joints for a record 27 crore rupees. Other notable purchases included Shreyas Iyer, who was added to the Punjab Kings for 26.75 crore rupees, and Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 23.75 crore rupees. The Kolkata Knight Riders will enter the season as defending champions, having won the title three times previously. The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have each won the title five times.
