The Indian Premier League, the most popular T20 league in the world, is just around the corner. Cricket fans globally are eagerly waiting for the upcoming season, and we’ve got some exciting news – the schedule for IPL 2025 has been announced. So, when and where will the action unfold? The 18th season of the Indian Premier League will kick off on March 22 with a thrilling match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The following day, March 23, will see two matches taking place – the first between SRH and RR, and the second between Chennai and Mumbai, starting at 7:30 pm. This season, CSK and Chennai will clash twice in the league stage, while RCB and Mumbai will face off in a single league match on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
As for the final match, it’s scheduled to take place on May 25, with both the inauguration and final matches being held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This season, the league will be played across 13 venues, with a total of 74 matches taking place over 65 days. The league matches will run from March 22 to May 18, followed by playoff matches on May 20, 21, 23, and 25.
First final in 10 years
Kolkata will also host the qualifier-2 on May 23, in addition to the final on May 25. This will be the first final in Kolkata in a decade, with Eden Gardens having previously hosted the title matches in 2013 and 2015. The other two playoffs – qualifiers on May 20 and Eliminator on May 1 and 21 – will be played in Hyderabad, the home ground of the 2024 runner-up Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The captain of 2 teams is yet to be announced
Recently, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore announced their captains. Rishabh Pant, signed for Rs 27 crore, will lead the Super Giants, while Shreyas Iyer will command the Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. RCB declared Rajat Patidar its new captain. However, two teams – Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders – have not yet announced their captain for IPL 2025.
