iPhone 13: Apple reserves 120Hz screen for Pro models, confirmed

Last year, Apple almost covered up the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max a 120Hz ProMotion display similar to that of iPad tablets. Fearing to ruin the battery life of its new flagships, Apple postponed the integration of 120Hz displays.

According to a series of leaks that have surfaced in recent months, Apple will integrate a 120Hz display into the new iPhone 13. To reduce high refresh rate energy consumption, the company would rely on LTPO technology (Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide thin film transistor). Already used on Apple Watch, it saves battery power by adapting the frequency of the screen.

According to a new report by The Elec, a renowned South Korean media outlet, the 120Hz screen will be reserved exclusively for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This is also the opinion of Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst specializing in Apple products, for several months. More sophisticated, these two versions benefit the best features in the range and a more premium design. They are also significantly more expensive.

“Apple plans to apply an LTPO OLED display to the Pro line of the next series of iPhones released later this year. LTPO can support 120Hz screen refresh rate”, explains The Elec. Thanks to LTPO panels, Apple Would Offer an Always-On Display for the First Time on iPhones. As stated in several previous reports, Samsung provides 120Hz OLED displays for Apple. Starting next year, Apple will also be able to count on screens developed by LG.

As expected, the standard iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will have to deal with an OLED screen confined to a refresh rate of 60 Hz. There are rumors that the company intends to put 120Hz LTPO displays in all iPhone 14 models, including in more accessible versions. More than a year before the iPhone goes into production, we recommend that you take this information with caution.
