As this year’s WWDC draws closer, more and more details are being revealed about the upcoming iOS 17. The latest, if it comes to fruition, will implement a change that Apple has always opposed.
In doubt, the possibility of installing applications on the iPhone from sources other than the App Store. By the way, the official Apple store itself can be replaced by an alternative.
The installation of applications outside the App Store will take its first steps with the release of iOS 17
This news appears in the most recent report prepared by renowned analyst Mark Gurman. The Bloomberg journalist trusts that this change is part of the innovations that will be included in the next version of the iPhone operating system.
According to his predictions, iOS 17 will bring about a profound change in Apple software by allowing the installation of applications from alternative sources. A modification that will enter into force due to the regulations of the European Union contained in its Digital Markets Law.
Its main objective is to promote fair competition among the different participants in the technology market. To this end, the same level of opportunity must be provided to everyone, including app stores that compete with the Play Store and the App Store.
This law will come into force from 2024, so American technology has to start working on its compliance. For Apple, this means waiving the obligation to install applications from the App Store and opening the doors to a multitude of sources without prior approval.
Apple has always opposed this idea, arguing that it will jeopardize the privacy and security of its users’ data. In fact, it will be interesting to see how those responsible will present this change.
For this, we will have to wait until June 5, the date on which the WWDC 2023 conference will begin. It will be that day that Apple makes the main presentations, where iOS 17 will not be missing.
