Greek footballer Fotis Ioannidis’s recent transfer to Portuguese club Sporting CP has introduced the personal challenge of a long-distance relationship for his partner, television presenter Eleni Voulgaraki, who is also pursuing her own career goals.
Voulgaraki, who remains in Greece, described the situation as difficult. She emphasized that constant video calls are essential to maintaining their connection across thousands of kilometers.
“A long-distance relationship is difficult. I like to be close to him,” Voulgaraki told the program ‘Smile Again’. Her ultimate goal is to live closer to Ioannidis while still maintaining a professional base in her home country.
This period marks Voulgaraki’s first extended time away from television after many years in the industry. She indicated a strong interest in returning to broadcasting, specifically aiming for a sports program.
“I am open to discussions about doing something on television. I would like to do a sports program; it’s my strong suit,” she stated. This ambition aligns closely with Ioannidis’s profession.
Ioannidis, a 25-year-old Greek international striker, joined Sporting CP approximately a month and a half ago. This move represents his first professional venture outside of Greece.
From afar, Voulgaraki followed Ioannidis’s recent performance. He scored one of three goals in Sporting’s 3-2 victory against Paços de Ferreira in the Portuguese Cup, where fans voted him the Most Valuable Player.
