The XIII Punta Cana Baseball Championschip 2023 International Tournament, which will be held from the 23rd to the 28th of this month in that town, will have the support of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and is dedicated in a special way to the former Major League star, the Puerto Rican Yadiel Molina.
The information was released by the Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin De la Mota, and the National Baseball Commissioner, Junior Noboa, at a press conference.
Former catcher Molina is a winner of nine Gold Gloves, two World Series, four Platinum Gloves and was elected to 10 All-Star Games in the Big Top.
Teams from the United States, Puerto Rico, Panama, Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico will participate in the event, as well as the host teams from the Dominican Republic.

For his part, Noboa highlighted the importance of this type of event where several countries and territories will be participating and children and young people between the ages of 7 and 17 will compete.
Meanwhile, the veteran sports leader José Dijols, president of the organizing committee, highlighted the great enthusiasm among the countries that will participate in the tournament, which will continue to serve the development of the sport of ball and bat in the region.
“We want to thank the support of the Ministry of Sports, the Baseball Commissioner, as well as the various commercial houses that are giving us their support,” said Dijols.
He commented that 130 games will be played with the participation of more than 1,200 athletes, distributed in 60 teams.
The activity was also attended by Agustín Brea, president of the Federation of Referees and Scorers; Diógenes de la Cruz, general director of the event, and the journalist from Punta Cana, Melvin Mingó.
In the meeting, the different trophies that will be disputed in the contest were presented, which were exhibited by several of the leagues and children who will be present at the fair that will begin on the 23rd in Punta Cana.
De la Cruz affirmed that the assembly is going “from strength to strength” and that the tournament will be “a complete success”, since the organizing committee has been working tirelessly for several months.
