Inter Milan didn’t just kick off their Italian League season this Monday; they launched into it with a bang. They welcomed Torino to their home stadium and delivered a stunning 5-0 thrashing, putting on a truly magnificent show for their fans.
At the iconic Giuseppe Meazza stadium, the team, fresh off being runners-up in both Italy and Europe, made a powerful statement. They showcased immense offensive quality, using all their attacking options to build a robust victory. This dominant win immediately places them at the top of the championship standings, thanks to their superior goal difference.
It didn’t take long for Inter to assert themselves. Alessandro Bastoni headed home from a corner after just 18 minutes, giving the home side the early lead. The scoring doubled before halftime when a crisp pass from Susic found Marcus Thuram. The French striker finished with a well-placed cross-shot in the 36th minute. The Milanese club headed into the break with a comfortable advantage.
Poor Franco Israel, Torino’s goalkeeper and a former Sporting player, found himself in a tough spot. He watched as the goals piled up, powerless to stop the onslaught. Honestly, the score could have been even worse; the difference in quality between the two sides was glaringly obvious.
The second half brought no relief for Torino. Lautaro MartÃnez capitalized on some defensive confusion in the 52nd minute to extend Inter’s lead. Just ten minutes later, Thuram bagged his second goal of the night, making it four and further solidifying their control of the match. To put a cherry on top, French newcomer Bonny scored the fifth goal. Lautaro MartÃnez assisted him in the 72nd minute, capping off a memorable debut for the young forward.
This massive victory marks a dream start in the championship for Inter’s new coach, the Romanian Cristian Chivu. It was a very auspicious beginning for his tenure.
Elsewhere in the league, other big names also started with wins over the weekend. Reigning champions Napoli, along with Como, Juventus, Cremonese, and Roma, all grabbed three points to kick off their campaigns.
Not every game was a goal-fest, though. Earlier, in Udine, Verona managed to hold the local team, Udinese, to a 1-1 draw. Udinese took the lead in the 53rd minute, courtesy of their Danish central defender, Thomas Kristensen. But Verona wasn’t going down without a fight. Twenty minutes later, the German Suat Serdar found the back of the net, leveling the score and securing a point for his team.
