Intel processor outperforms Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max in speed tests

The Intel Core i9-12900K processor outperformed the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors in GeekBench 5 benchmarks by being 1.5 times faster than Apple’s.

With an average score of 18,500, it outperformed the latest Apple processors that did not exceed 12,500.

Intel recently introduced its 12th generation Aider Lake processor, which includes the i9-12900K. The new generation is designed for desktop computers and its high-end i9-12900K has 16 cores, eight of which are geared towards performance and the other eight towards energy efficiency.

It is true that the new generation of Intel was developed for desktop computers while the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are built into laptops. But since there are rumors that Apple intends to equip its new 27-inch iMac with these chips in the first half of next year, comparisons and tests between the two are inevitable.

And that’s exactly what happened. The first GeekBench 5 benchmark results reveal that the Intel Core i9-12900K is 1.5 times faster than Apple’s M1 processor. In this test, the Intel processor scored an average of 18,500 while the Apple processors scored 12,500.

Intel wins speed test but loses in energy efficiency

Although the Intel Core i9-12900K has shown good results in speed tests, it still falls short in power consumption tests. Here Apple wins with its processors that use much less power than the 12th generation of Intel. Depending on the brand, the Intel Core i9-12900K consumes up to 125 W in basic use and up to 241 W in turbo frequency.

But to tell the truth, when Apple announced that it would develop its own processors, it never said they would be the fastest on the market. The Cupertino company had previously committed to making them the most energy efficient and tests now conducted have shown that Apple is keeping its word.
