Intel’s next big thing in graphics might be just around the corner. According to Tom’s Hardware, four new Intel Battlemage GPU IDs just showed up in the Linux Mesa graphics driver. These IDs, 0xe220 to 0xe223, share the “BMG” naming convention – a clear nod to Intel’s Battlemage architecture.
No specific model names are mentioned, but that’s not stopping people from thinking one of these IDs could belong to the highly anticipated B770. If true, this GPU would be a major upgrade from Intel’s current Arc B570 and B580, which are aimed at the budget market.
The addition of these new IDs to the Mesa driver is a pretty standard move before new hardware launches. It suggests Intel is getting ready to unveil the B770. This GPU is rumored to pack up to 32 Xe cores and a 256-bit memory interface, possibly with 16 GB or more of GDDR6 memory.
That would put the B770 in direct competition with NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 and AMD’s RX 9060. We’re talking serious performance for both gaming and professional apps.
As for when we’ll hear more about the B770, keep an eye on upcoming events. With these new IDs in the Mesa driver, Linux enthusiasts and developers can expect support for the new GPU, showing Intel’s commitment to making its products work with open-source platforms.
