‘Insulting the Prophet of Islam is not freedom of expression’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has categorically said that insulting the Prophet of Islam is not freedom of expression.

According to international media reports, in a press conference, Putin stressed the importance of artistic freedom without restricting religious freedom, saying that insulting the Prophet of Islam does not count as freedom of expression.

The Russian president said that insulting the Prophet was a violation of religious freedom as well as the sacred sentiments of Muslims.

He said that anti-religious measures give rise to extremist activities. There should be artistic freedom but it has its limits.

Putin made it clear that Russia is a multi-ethnic and multi-faith state, so the Russians are accustomed to respecting each other’s traditions, but in some other countries this respect is very low.
