Lorenzo Insigne’s future in MLS appears to be at a crossroads. After a year and a half in Toronto, the Italian midfielder is hoping for a quick exit from the Canadian team in January. His time in the American League did not live up to expectations as he only played 31 official games in which he hardly showed his undeniable qualities. In fact, his most notable achievements came off the field, leading some to question his commitment to the team.
When Insigne signed with Toronto, he became the highest-paid player in MLS with a contract until June 2026. However, since his arrival, the Italian has struggled with injuries that have kept him sidelined for almost 100 days. Additionally, the team performed disappointingly and failed to qualify for the playoffs in its first two seasons.
The fans’ dissatisfaction became clear recently when a video circulated on social networks in which Insigne confronted some supporters who blamed him for his performance in the team. This situation led to a complete distancing between the player and the fans.
They are not afraid to listen to offers
Despite all of this, Toronto seems interested in keeping Insigne for next season, although they would be willing to listen to offers if the board decides to do so. Italian media have mentioned interest from clubs such as Roma and Lazio in repatriating the player from January.
